An exotic form of Tanzanian art.

A lot of Tanzanians have developed this beautiful art form from their ancestors. It is the type of art that is taught in a lot of Tanzanian schools. Tinga Tinga art shows colorful images of the community, nature, evil, spirits, and lots of other things. Tinga Tinga is the Tanzanian form for art. This type of art also has a reputation as a type of pop art.

The founder of Tinga Tinga art was Edward Sadi Tinga Tinga. He was the son of farmers. He moved to Dar es Salaam to make an effort to try to learn in the city. One day, while he was inbetween jobs, he painted on square chipboards with house paint. He painted what he knew, which were scenes of everyday life, birds, cultural beliefs of Tanzania and images of village life. Soon he tried to sell his paintings and he made money because many people bought them and liked them. He influenced his family and friends and soon had a small group producing this exotic art form. Soon after, his paintings were recognized by the National Development Cooperation, which raised the profile of this art form and made it widely known.

In 1972, Tinga Tinga met an unexpected death when he was mistaken for a robber by the police and shot. He was only forty years old and his art future had just started.
